1967 Camaro Restoration Project

So now I've taken a break from the project for a month or so and got some things of my own done so now it time to get back on it. Time to start tearing the engine apart to see where we stand on it. I'd like to have the engine and transmission done before the car comes back from the paint shop.

After getting the valve covers and intake off, it's very apparent the original owners of this engine did not put oil changes way up on their priority list. I've seen a lot worse but man is this thing gummed up with sludge.

Now with the heads are off I see we have some issues with two of the cylinder walls. I won't know for sure how bad they are until the block takes a trip down to my machinest buddy Mark. He's going to do all the machine work for me.

We're down at the machine shop now. Gonna leave the engine down here in Mark's care for a bit while I get some other things done.

Everything has to be cooked and cleaned before any kind of check out is done. I can only hope at this time everything checks out OK and this will be the engine we will be using. I'll know for sure in a week or so.

Look what Mark had sitting in his garage,, a stock cast iron 4 barrel intake manifold for this 327 engine. If the engine checks out, this is going to be used instead of an aftermarket manifold.

Mark did a quick test to make sure the manifold will clear the stock oil baffle. Everything looks great. I'm stoked he just happened to have a stock 327 manifold.

I got my helper back to finish up some painting.
